What is a CBT?
Competency Based Training is currently the continuing education model for EMTs in King County. It is based on WA state's OTEP program with some slight differences in content and practical skills training. EMT-Bs are required to keep up to date on their continuing education, and completion of the CBTs are a requirement to renew your EMT license. When applying to renew your license KC EMS will evaluate your CBTs and use that as one of the determining factors for whether or not to renew you WA state EMT-B license. Typically EMTs need to have 18 CBTs completed for the three years previous to their renewal application. Although you are welcome to participate in CBTs with any KC EMS affiliated agency, KC SAR offers CBTs on a quarterly cycle (each set offered once each month of the quarter) to ensure that all that year's CBTs are offered multiple times for our EMTs. If you get behind in your scheduled CBTs please work with one of the CBT Instructors to get you caught up as soon as possible.
The current (2010) CBT Instructors for KC SAR are:
- Joanne B. (SPART)
- Tracie G. (ESAR & SAR IST)
- Andree H. (SAR IST)
- Jay M. (ESAR)
- Todd R. (ESAR)
- John T. (ESAR & SAR IST)
- Shawn W. (ESAR)
The 2010 schedule for KC SAR CBTs can be found at 2010 Dates for CBT Practicals.
