SAR Techniques
Washington Administrative Code (WAC) 118-04-120(3)(b) requires that all SAR personnel possess knowledge of search and rescue techniques. The exact content, length, and refresher cycle has been interpreted through an agreement of King County Sheriff's Office, and the unit leaders of King County Search and Rescue Association
An initial course must be taken within one year of joining a member unit, and before an individual may participate in a mission outside of King County. Field members must participate in 12-hours of mission time every three years, or re-take this course. Member Units may enforce higher standards within their own organization.
This three-hour class presents the organization, pre-planning, management, field knowledge, and post-search expectations of an organized search mission.
